I remember the feel of a gun in my hands, the scratchy, thick wool coat over my shoulders. The deafening sound of bombs and guns, and men yelling and calling out orders. I remember the scent of sulfur and mud, and blood, which has been wired into my brain, the memory for which I can never shut out and never forget.
